The Bridge Career Readiness Center at Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently hosted a successful Resume Best Practices Lunch and Learn that drew in 36 student attendees.
The session, led by Director of Student Career Readiness Shane Copeland, focused on helping students create clear, professional, and employer-focused resumes. Students learned what employers notice first, how to organize essential resume sections, and how to tailor their experience and skills to specific job opportunities.
The presentation also covered common resume mistakes including using generic descriptions, listing duties without demonstrating results, including unnecessary personal information, and submitting documents with formatting or proofreading errors. Students received practical handouts covering best resume practices and examples they can use when developing their own application materials.
“The strong turnout reflected students’ interest in preparing for internships, part-time employment, and future careers,” Copeland said.
The event is part of The Bridge Career Readiness Center’s continued efforts to provide BRTC students with practical tools, personalized support, and opportunities to build confidence as they prepare to enter the workforce.
