Black River Technical College (BRTC) faculty spent Friday, September 18 learning new strategies, getting institutional updates, and connecting with colleagues during Focus Friday, a day of professional development held on the BRTC campus.

Focus Friday gives faculty dedicated time to attend sessions designed to support them in and out of the classroom. This semester’s sessions included how to “level up” online courses, an introduction to the Creative Learning Center at the library, and a look at interactive tools for instruction. Faculty also received important updates on Higher Learning Commission (HLC) criteria and BRTC retention.

The day ended with a little friendly competition in the BRTC Grill, where faculty and some staff formed teams for a round of BRTC Trivia. Teams answered 50 questions covering BRTC faculty, handbooks, rules and regulations, and a few just-for-fun questions. The winning team, Team Science, consisted of science instructors Lynda Griffin, John Huggins, Dr. Jason Self, and James Stone and Instructional Technologist Keri Zimmer.
