BRTC Foundation Announces Emilia “Emmy” Lambert Memorial Scholarship

The Black River Technical College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Emilia “Emmy” Lambert Memorial Scholarship at Black River Technical College (BRTC). The scholarship was created by Laureate Beta Alpha, a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in memory of longtime member Emilia Lambert.

The $500 scholarship will be divided between the fall and spring semesters, with $250 awarded each term. It will go to a non-traditional female student enrolled in a Nutrition and Dietetics program at BRTC, whether for college credit or workforce training. The Foundation hopes to award the first scholarship this fall.

Lambert was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 26 years. Born June 15, 1944, in Ibagué, Colombia, she made her home in Pocahontas where she volunteered with numerous civic organizations including serving as a Pink Lady at Five Rivers Medical Center. She was an active parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church and worked as a substitute teacher for the Pocahontas School District where she considered every student one of her own children. Lambert passed on May 19, 2025, at the age of 80.

Lambert was also a gifted cook and baker and an accomplished artist who enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, and cross stitch. Above all, she treasured her role as a mother and grandmother.

The scholarship reflects Lambert’s passion for nourishing, teaching, and caring for others. It will support women who are pursuing new careers in nutrition and dietetics later in life or while balancing work and family.

The BRTC Foundation exists solely to provide resources to further the academic programs and activities of BRTC. The Foundation’s mission is to assist with the development and enhancement of programs and facilities; to assist in providing broader educational opportunities and services to students, staff, and alumni; and to receive, hold, and administer gifts or grants.
