Black River Technical College's (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) recently hosted guest speakers from Paragould Municipal Utilities (PMU).
PMU's Holly Gordon met with the students and talked to them about multiple job opportunities with the company. Warren Stipe, PMU electrician, spoke about the automated systems they use to identify issues in their own system. Stipe also talked about his experience of becoming an electrician through BRTC's apprenticeship program.
Marshall Morgan and AJ Taylor informed the students about their responsibilities working with the fiber optic side of the company. The duo even gave students the chance to try their hand at Morgan and Taylor's job by letting them splice fiber.
BRTC's Career and Technical Center is a free program which enables high school juniors and seniors to get a head start on a career after high school. Students can graduate with their high school diploma as well as with a BRTC certificate at the same time, ready to go right into the workforce. The CTC program is funded by the Office of Skills Development.
