Academic Advisement

Academic Advisement is available and recommended for all entering freshmen. Trained professionals help beginning students plan their degree program and first semester classes. Academic advisors will not make decisions, but will provide information, options, and advice to help students make their own choices.

Once you meet with a BRTC Academic Advisor (Mary Anderson, 870-248-4000, Ext. 4011 or Rachel Koons, 870-248-4000, Ext. 4014), a program advisor will be assigned to you. Returning students are assigned a faculty advisor whose field most closely matches the student's major. Students must meet with an advisor at least once each semester and also to work out a degree plan if a specific academic degree is sought.

Not meeting with your assigned advisor will prevent you from registering for class.

The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and equitable treatment in the application of credits for admissions and degree requirements. Students may complete specified General Education courses anywhere in the public system as well as many courses in the degree/major that have been pre-identified for transfer.  This system is designed to assist in planning from the high school level through the adult workforce.
