The Auto Body Collision Repair program instructs in the basic principles of automotive collision repair on the frame/body design as well as on the unibody design found in today's vehicles. This course is designed to train students in estimating, metal- working, sanding, painting, aligning frames and installing glass. Training will also include procedures to remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and mechanical window-and-seat operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fenders. Students are also given training in diagnosing and servicing of the air bag restraint systems.

Industry standards are met with National I-CAR Foundation curriculum and the latest auto refinishing techniques are stressed including the mixing and spraying of paints, the reduction and the identification of materials used in auto refinishing. Instruction in the repair and replacement of plastic and fiberglass components includes plastic welding, adhesive repairs and surface preparation.

The Auto Body Collision Repair Department at BRTC is equipped with the latest computer programs, spraying and repair equipment found in the industry.

This certification program will count toward an AAS degree in General Technology.

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of this Automotive Collision Repair program, the automotive collision repair technician will have entry level skills as a glass installer, body and frame worker, automobile painter or insurance appraiser. Self- employment is also an option as a body shop manager or paint sales representative.

The demand for automotive body repair technicians is expected to increase as the nation's number of motor vehicles continues to grow. Contributing to the need for more repair professionals is the new, lighter weight automotive designs that damage more easily.

Automotive body repair technicians who have completed formal training, such as the BRTC program, will find the greatest number of employment opportunities.
